Cotter Has Been Acquired by Stytch
Stytch acquisition of Cotter and what it means for Cotter customers.

We started our journey with Cotter almost 2 years ago, when we ventured into the community of developers, indie-hackers, and no-coders. From you, we found new ways to help builders build their products faster by using our passwordless authentication SDK to manage their login flow. Your feedback, requests, and projects are what made Cotter possible, and we can't thank you enough.
We’ve grown to become a leading no-code authentication platform, were Product Hunt’s #1 Product of the Day earlier this year, and, most importantly, have helped more than 3,000 developers who are building on Cotter today.
In December 2020, we were trying to find new ways to serve the no-code community and were experimenting with a new product, Typedream, a no-code website builder with a Notion-like interface. We soon realized that it is a better-suited product for our team's skills, and we wanted to find a better home for Cotter. We first met Stytch in early 2021 and were really impressed by the team, how they architected and built their first email magic link product, and their laser-focused developer-first mentality. As we started early conversations with Stytch, we realized that they shared our vision on the future of authentication, and we feel like they are the perfect fit for Cotter's users.
Since then, Stytch has dramatically expanded both their team and product capabilities. Today, Stytch has over 3,500 developers building on the platform adding email magic links, SMS and WhatsApp passcodes, OAuth connections, one-click user invitations, and embeddable magic links into their user onboarding and login flows. In addition to these core passwordless features, they have also seen companies of all sizes drawn to the simple developer experience and the flexibility offered by their API-first approach, including a few Fortune 500 companies that are using the product.
Stytch is the leader in passwordless user infrastructure, and we can’t think of a better partner for Cotter.
What does this mean for Cotter customers?
Cotter will continue to be supported until March 31, 2022, and will sunset after that point. During this transition period, we will do our best to help you migrate. We recommend current Cotter customers create an account with Stytch and check out Stytch’s API Docs and API Reference, which are the best places to learn about their products and get up and running quickly. You can also check out their example apps to quickly see their SDK + APIs in action. We want to ensure that the transition goes as smoothly as possible, so please feel free to reach out to the Stytch team at email@example.com or join their community Slack if you have any questions along the way.
Stytch also works closely with dozens of notable early-stage VCs and accelerators to help their startups get up and running on authentication in minutes. If you’re a YC startup, make sure to check out the Stytch page on Bookface to find out which type of YC credits you’re eligible for, and how you can redeem them. If you’re part of a different accelerator program or have raised VC funding, please email Stytch at firstname.lastname@example.org to see if you qualify for any of their VC/accelerator discounts.
We would be lying if we said this wasn’t a bit of a bittersweet moment, but we’re confident in Stytch and know that Cotter will help them accelerate the transition to a passwordless future.
As we place Cotter in good hands, we’re energized to give more to the growing no-code community with Typedream. Thanks to the community’s love and support, we were named Product Hunt’s Product of the Month in July! If you’re a builder that wants to create a stunning website in record time, come check us out!
Cheers, The Cotter Team
